While browsing the internet, I found a useful resource-- the Human Services Coalition of Cayuga County. While the organization has many “tasks”, one is the Elderly and Disabled Task Grouo. It is great that such active attention is paid to such an important aspect of care in Cayuga. The task groups meet regularly and consist of members interested in topics relating to the task. Each task has long and short term goals, and devise operational steps to accomplish these goals. This is such a helpful site for elderly and their families to navigate and find helpful resources. For example, there is an “Alzheimers and Dementia Services List.” It impressively lists statistics of citizens who may be afflicted with these diseases and the expected population growth. It lists support services, programs, informational hotlines and more. I particularly found it impressive that they offer day programs or “respite services” for quite low prices, as well as safety services to locate missing individuals, and support groups that actively meet. Seeing all these resources in Cayuga County where they are accessible to all citizens is so impressive and must substantially help the medical care continuity and support for elderly.
